Hello friends,
Everyone and their nan has had something to say about two things this week: Instagram’s new Snapchat and BeReal inspired feature “Instants” and that temporary Spotify logo.
My thoughts?

That’s all.
Anyway, I hate to say it, but it’s been another (somewhat) quiet week in social media. Great news for us as it means there’s less to keep up with but bad news for writing these.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some updates that you absolutely, and categorically, need to know 🙂↕️
So, grab a drink of your choice + a snack, get comfy, and let’s dive into the social media tea.
👋 THE TOP STORY THIS WEEK:
→ Everyone hates Instagram’s BeReal competitor, Instants.

Instants, a new app + a new feature that lives in your DMs has everyone furious online — unless you like sh*tposting and yapping like me. It’s a new way to share “in the moment” content with your followers with spontaneous and unfiltered photos, and allows your followers can react + reply. The good news is? You can turn it off, you just need to go into your settings.
People on LinkedIn are already talking about creating a strategy for Instants (yawn) but I’d love to actually hear from you guys, are you: creating a strategy for your brand, letting your brand just have fun with it, or ignoring it because your to-do list is already far too long and another feature + app to learn will already be on its way soon?
💌 THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S UPDATES:
→ Meta has released a new report that examines the evolution of discovery on social media, reporting that 41% of Gen Z turn to social media platforms first before traditional search + 58% find social media more enjoyable than traditional search for product discovery.
→ TikTok wants to be the place you discover your next destination AND the place where you book it as the platform launches TikTok GO (all I think of is Pokemon GO) which is a new way for users to discover and book hotels + experience directly in the app.
→ LinkedIn bets on the creator economy as it looks to partner with creators on sponsored LinkedIn events, allegedly wanting to host as many as 4,000 events a year.
→ X, FKA Twitter, launches an AI Creator matchmaking tool called Creator Connect which matches brands with creators based on audience, trends + campaign goals.
→ Snapchat published a new report which highlights how creators are driving brand discovery. According to Snapchat, creator ads are played for 25% longer, and drive 16% more active attention, than standard branding ads.
→ Goodbye Hollywood, Creators are the new primetime stars as creator ad spending hit $37bn in 2025, and it’s projected to reach $44bn this year.
→ YouTube announces a new partnership with the BBC and National Film + Television School which will work together to create a training course for TV producers, journalists and digital creators to unlock creative potential in the UK.
→ Reddit says that consumers spend more after researching products on the platform, as a new study shows that the platform has an ever-growing role in product discovery with shopping conversations surging by 40%.
👋👀FINALLY, SOMETHING SMALL YOU CAN BRAG ABOUT! [ad]

Omnisend have just announced the most iconic news: they’ve just lowered their SMS pricing to $0.007.
The same power, just with a smaller bill. Better yet? If you’re with another provider, they’ll migrate you within five days (FOR FREE) and you could be saving up to a huuuge 35% before next Friday.

P.S. Omnisend has so kindly given the GPM community 30% off their first three months! All you need to do is use the code GPM30 at checkout.
And that’s it for now folks! Our little newsletter community is growing, and it’s by far my favourite corner of the internet but don’t tell anyone else I said that.
🩷 REMINDER: I’m at SocialDay on Wednesday 20th May, and would love to catch some of you for a coffee or a sweet, crisp Diet Coke! Drop me an email if you’re there!
Okay, now it’s time for everyone’s favourite part of the week… Which fake social media update should I use?
You choose this week's fake social media update 👋
See you next week.
