Hello friends,

I’m writing this edition of the newsletter late in the evening and I have a SULA (sweaty upper lip alert) but we must persist. God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.

So I’m sending thoughts and prayers to my UK subscribers this week as we try to survive an unexpected mini heatwave. The temperature here when it gets hot is just so different compared to when you’re abroad.

ANYWAY, we’ve got a lot to cover this week. Is it the most exciting week we’ve ever had? Not really BUT there’s a lot of juicy stuff in here.

We’ve got everything from LinkedIn bringing back it’s TikTok-esque vertical feed (no, really) and Meta launching another app to how often you should be posting on LinkedIn, apparently and why whimsy is taking over the internet.

SO, without further ado, grab a cup of tea + a snack, and let’s dive into the latest social media updates.

👋 THE TOP STORIES THIS WEEK:

→ LinkedIn is relaunching the TikTok-esque vertical feed, with tests spotted in the UK, Canada and Australia.

LinkedIn is still trying to make video happen, and I get it, I really do. But many creators have already reported the decline in reach and engagement when it comes to video content vs. last year. But according to LinkedIn:

A year ago, we rolled back the immersive video experience (video tab, video carousel in feed) to just the US, so that we could go all-in on improving the underlying quality and relevance of videos, to create something that worked great for both creators and viewers.

Members now spend >2x more time watching videos from the tab and carousel, while also spending 60% more time per video.”

→ Meta launches a new app (not another one), Forum, which separates Facebook Group activity into its own app.

Is Meta trying to compete with Reddit? Potentially. Forum is a dedicated space “built for deeper discussions, real answers and the communities you care about” and while the app fundamentally populates the app with the groups you’re part of, it’s trying to do something that feels more like Reddit with “Ask.”

As per Meta: “Looking for opinions, advice or recommendations? Ask pulls together responses from across groups, so you can get answers right away from people who’ve been there and join the conversation.”

Sounds familiar…

💌 THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S UPDATES:

→ TikTok is becoming a discovery hub with 67% of consumers using TikTok Shop to discover products — ahead of Amazon and YouTube, according to new research.

LinkedIn wants to limit the reach of AI content, putting restrictions on the reach of content that appears to be generated by AI and lacking in clear perspective.

→  Whimsy is taking over with whimsical searches on Etsy jumping 50%+ YoY. The trend (or lifestyle) is embracing the beauty and amusement in life like coffee rituals, blanket forts, trying new things. Perhaps more people could embrace the whimsy Spotify logo from last week… But it’s not surprising this

→ LinkedIn and YouTube are the most-cited platforms by AI chatbots for B2B-related questions, according to a new study by Meltwater, with plain text posts and articles driving 83% of LinkedIn’s AI citations.

→ TikTok is launching a new “LIVE Premiere” series, starting with the legendary Paul McCartney, where he’ll do a global Q&A around his new album. TikTok says LIVE Premiere will become the flagship format for music, sports and entertainment launches.

→ LinkedIn says creators should aim for 2-5 posts on the platform weekly, with at least 1-2 video posts, in a new guide

Canva now integrates with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini for AI-generated branded graphics inside chats.

CapCut is partnering with Gemini so users can edit inside Google’s chatbot.

→ Did you get a notification from LinkedIn to say that your content has been removed for going against community guidelines? You’re not alone, and it seems it was a bug.

→ Still think your business is too small to be on TikTok? Well, according to the app, small businesses are booming with searches for “small business” jumping 479% in Q1 this year.

A free newsletter with the marketing ideas you need

The best marketing ideas come from marketers who live it.

That’s what this newsletter delivers.

The Marketing Millennials is a look inside what’s working right now for other marketers. No theory. No fluff. Just real insights and ideas you can actually use—from marketers who’ve been there, done that, and are sharing the playbook.

Every newsletter is written by Daniel Murray, a marketer obsessed with what goes into great marketing. Expect fresh takes, hot topics, and the kind of stuff you’ll want to steal for your next campaign.

Because marketing shouldn’t feel like guesswork. And you shouldn’t have to dig for the good stuff.

And that’s another week complete! As always, thank you for being here. It’s my favourite corner of the internet (shh, don’t tell people on LinkedIn) and I truly have so much fun writing these.

I want to say another thank you too, for your patience with this newsletter. I’ve got so many fun features to add (like the Social Tea Hotline, Hot Takes, etc) but trying to juggle this, working part-time, and being a new mum — I might’ve been a bit optimistic. But it was more important to me to make sure that you’re getting your updates every week, and those fun extra features? They’ll be back really soon.

As always, if you’ve seen anything interesting floating around your feeds lately, reply and tell me. Platform tests, strange trends, features quietly appearing where they shouldn’t — looking at you, Meta. I’m always curious what other people are noticing, and what their feeds are serving.

💬 Now it’s time for everyone’s favourite part of the newsletter, which fake update should be included in my Wednesday roundup? I’m putting the losing votes each week up against each other, so I can come up with some new ones because believe it or not, they do take some time to come up with, HA!

P.S. I LOVE reading your comments when you vote on these! I read everyyy single one. You can now add comments to the live newsletter, too!

See you next week.

TTYL,

AM @ Girl Power Marketing xx
