Hello friends,
Happy Tuesday! It’s a slightly different one from me this week as we’re stripping the newsletter back.
People talk about the newborn trenches but don’t warn you about when the adrenaline of having a newborn wears off, and your body realises you haven’t slept properly in six months.
So here’s what you can expect:
The top stories of the week
Your usual social media updates (there's not many of interest, but that's never a bad thing)
Articles I’ve enjoyed reading
So, you know the drill. Grab a drink + a snack, get comfy, and let’s dive into this week’s social media updates.
👋 THE TOP STORIES THIS WEEK:
→ Instagram launches a new standalone app, Instants
The new app allows users to share disappearing photos. And yes, it resembles Snapchat. But why would Meta do that? Well, according to Social Media Today,
“Well, it could be because Snapchat’s growth has stalled, and has even decreased in some regions. Meta may see this as an opportunity to put the pressure on, in the hopes of shrinking Snapchat’s market reach even more.
Meta has had a vendetta against Snapchat for years, stemming from its efforts to acquire the app in 2013, when Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg offered $3 billion for the rising platform, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.”
Now that is some real social media tea.
→ TikTok now helps brands + creators manage how their videos are discovered in search by allowing them to block or suggest keywords assigned to their videos.
A really helpful feature that I fear will be swept under the rug, and go completely under the radar. Previously, keywords were automatically generated based on viewer behaviour and search activity but now you can manage them yourself, block any irrelevant keywords and suggest keywords you want your content to rank for.
🔗 AD BREAK — EMAIL MARKETING METRICS WITH OMNISEND

Email marketing isn’t dead. In fact, it’s better than ever 👋👀
But seeing a bunch of email marketing metrics in reports can feel daunting, and confusing at the best of times. Omnisend has broken down what each metric means, how to calculate it, and why it matters for evaluating email performance – the latter being so important when reporting to stakeholders. Run, don’t walk, and read the article here.
Better yet? Omnisend has advanced reporting, where you can track and analyse these metrics all in one place to help you make informed decisions faster. There’s a reason why Omnisend is trusted by 150,000+ businesses, and rated 4.7 stars.

💌 THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S UPDATES:
→ Meta expands Instagram’s APIs, which means third-party apps will now be able to support posting organic content with a “brand partnership” label, and more.
→ Beehiiv rolls out new creator tools, including: webinars, AI analytics for podcasts, metered paywalls, and paid trials.
→ Snapchat is rolling out “Place Loyalty” which is a new feature which shows users when they’re among the most frequent visitors to a place on Snap Map.
→ LinkedIn is making engagement harder on the platform, by making like comments and shares astronomically smaller.

→ Threads is testing an unusual but interesting feature, uses can highlight a word and react to it with an emoji.

📌 WHAT I’VE ENJOYED READING:
AdAge is one of my favourite ways to keep up with the latest campaigns! “In today’s [27th April] creative news, Jägermeister builds a mock division devoted to ice cold shots, Lacoste brings back “Life Is a Beautiful Sport” platform, and Vanish highlights the discomfort of school uniforms for students with autism.”
→ Social Media SEO Workbook by ME !!
I’ve been talking about TikTok as a search engine for what feels like forever now. Well, I suppose it has been four years already. And I’ve just released my first ever freebie in partnership with HubSpot — who were one of my very first brand partners four years ago too. This workbook covers everything from how to do keyword research and finding search intent to looking for content gaps and content creation.
As a note: I haven’t covered LLMs because this is very much a beginner’s guide, and it mostly focuses on Instagram and TikTok as Pinterest and YouTube would require their own (in my opinion) so watch this space.
→ How to stop your fear of being seen from holding you back — Crystal Clear by Erifili
“Miracles take place when you finally start putting yourself out there in ways that feel fun and authentic to you. But whenever I talk about this, maybe 90% of the time, someone asks – how do I do that when I have a debilitating fear of being seen?”
And that’s all for now folks. I hope you didn’t mind this stripped back version. Heck, some of you might’ve even preferred it because I am such a yapper!
As always, if you’ve seen anything interesting floating around your feeds lately, please please please reply + tell me. I LOVE chatting with ya’ll.
Now it’s time for your favourite feature. YOU get to decide the fake update that goes in my social media updates on LinkedIn ⬇️
📌 What fake social media update should I use this week?
See you next week.
