Hello friends,

And to my UK friends: Hot one today, huh?

It’s been another week already. I’m sure I blink, and then I’m back writing this newsletter on a Monday night while watching Love Island again. But I’m not complaining, you’re my favourite corner of the internet.

It’s been a half and half week in terms of news, if I’m honest. Some of it is quite exciting, and some of it is not. As ya’ll know by now, I only pick the updates that I think you need to know and the ones that’ll actually impact your day-to-day working in marketing.

SO, without further ado, grab a cup of tea + a snack, and let’s dive into the latest social media updates.

👋 YOUR TOP STORIES THIS WEEK:

→ Instagram now lets you add multiple captions in a carousel but what I want to know is: How does this impact social SEO? Can each slide rank for different keywords? Until then, I’ll probably pretend it doesn’t exist outside of experimenting.

→ LinkedIn has announced a bunch of new features at Cannes including collaborative posts where members and LinkedIn pages will be able to share posts together on LinkedIn, and people will see all collaborators listed at the top of the post — much like on Instagram. Plus a suggested feed for trending topics and moments happening around you (I’m sure this was another fake update of mine this year) which as Christina Le puts it: “means LinkedIn is inching closer to real-time cultural discovery” and these updates are a “strong signal that linkedIn is taking creators more seriously.”

→ Instagram is testing blue search suggestions at the top of comment sections and you guessed it, they look exactly like the feature on TikTok. If I remember rightly, this has been in testing before, and it now looks like it’s rolling out to the EU. Is this a sign that Instagram is trying to improve its search capabilities? Could we soon get an Instagram version of TikTok Creator Search Insights? Please.

💌 THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S UPDATES:

→ LinkedIn is developing a brand kits feature for Campaign Manager which "allows you to set your brand’s core assets such as color palette, fonts, and brand voice to help your ads stay consistently aligned with your brand.”

Social media is the leading source of news according to Reuters, the data also showed that online creators are rising as key news sources in many regions.

→ Snapchat has announced a Snap Creator Network which is an AI-powered system which simplifies the creator discovery processes. As per Snapchat: “Advertisers can describe the creators they’re looking for — including audience, tone, category, or campaign goals — and Snap Creator Network helps match advertisers with creators that fit their audience and campaign needs.”

→ Instagram is testing the ability to comment on posts with a photo (another fake update of mine)

→ Instagram now lets you add multiple captions in a carousel but what I want to know is: How does this impact social SEO? Can each slide rank for different keywords?

→ LinkedIn now finally lets users add GIFs directly in the comments via the reply box.
