Hello friends,
The past week has consisted of living vicariously through all the LinkedInfluencers attending Cannes, trying to survive the UK heatwave with no air conditioning, and crying at too many movies including but not limited to The Sheep Detectives, Toy Story 5 and Voicemails to Isabelle.
Anyway before I really start to overshare, let’s dive straight in to the social media updates that have been happening this week.
(Don’t forget to grab your cup of tea, and a snack.)
👋 THE TOP STORIES THIS WEEK:
→ LinkedIn is testing suggested feeds, which would serve alternative topic-focused feeds that will be recommended to users based on what they engage with in the app.

→ TikTok and YouTube are “reinventing sports viewership” with CNBC noting: “Rather than watching live games in their entirety, consumers are increasingly watching sports clips, highlights, athlete-made videos and creator content on social platforms.”
→ Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, reminds users that adding music to your carousels will make them eligible for the reels feed.
💌 THE REST OF THIS WEEK’S UPDATES:
→ Instagram is coming for streaming services, after saying it’s going to experiment with longer-form content, episodic series, and Live TV via its TV app.
→ Facebook has added a Creator Activity section to the Professional Dashboard for Pages to help creators: track activity, understand growth and build consistent posting habits.
→ TikTok has launched Custom Creator Networks which allows brands to turn existing brand-relevant videos into ads.
→ YouTube has introduced new insights tools built with Gemini to “maximize this new era of creator marketing” including deeper trend data to understand what’s popular on YouTube right now.
→ YouTube creator content appears in over 25% of prompts answered by AI chatbots and in high-intent categories like financial services, that climbs to nearly one in two responses.
→ Australia to double the maximum penalty for platforms in breach of social media ban to $99m.
